racism in baseball?
is there racism in baseball? twins infielder Orlando Hudson thinks so. he told Yahoo! that racism might be a factor in the case of Jermaine Dye. Dye, an African American, hit 27 home runs last year, but he remains unsigned in 2010. now, there are plenty of teams that would like a player who can hit 27 home runs, but what hudson left out, is that Dye batted .179 in the second half of 2009. Dye is in rapid decline. he's 36 years old with a slow bat. according to baseball prospectus, Dye "often looked like the guy at work who never gets enough sleep." i'm guessing that some team will take a flier on Dye. baseball would love to have more African-American participation. less than 10% of major league players are African-American. racism is not the issue in the case of Jermain Dye. it's just a case of a guy whose career is swiftly on the downside. Orlando Hudson take note.

Dan, I am happy to say I just joined your blog. I don't know much about sports so I will leave commenting to your fellow sports bloggers. Any thoughts on the T.V. show "Dancing with the Stars"? Michele
ReplyDeletehi michele, just when i think i'm through watching DWTS, it pulls me right back in. i think that's a Goodfellas reference. anyway, evan, the figure skater, and the pussycat doll (don't know her name), are the clear front runners. that's not to say the others don't have talent. if you're a regular watcher of the show you will notice that chad ochocinco is a complete boor. he has a problem taking with constructive critisism. he's just not a likeable guy. on a somewhat unrelated note, it appears that his relationship with his partner, cheryl burke, has crossed the line. that's not a critisism. on balance, the show has been a disappointment this year. too much backstage drama. a celebrity cast that is too B-list. but again, right when i'm through watching the show, something pulls me right back in.

As for racism in baseball, maybe, but the other day was Jackie Robinson day- and that melted my heart. I will leave the heavy duty commenting to those sports commenters.

ReplyDeleteyou're killing me berg. we both have those wonderful hockey memories don't we? wayne is probably the CEO of a fortune 500 company, or maybe he's donated his brain to science. that kid took a lot of punishment. thanks for contributing to my little blog. not sure how often i'm going to write. this just may turn out to be an occasional fling. although from what i understand it's best to write as often as possible. stay well.
